COMMANDER TANK
I don't have to remind you, there are many people in this world
who don't have enough food to eat.
There are many reasons, and that is for you to discover.

The mission, should you decide to accept it, is this:
A hunger crisis exists on the fictitious island of Sheylan
Your Objectives:
1. Air Surveillance: The causes of hunger and malnutrition
2. Energy Pacs: Nutrition and the cost of feeding the hungry
3. Airdrop: WFP’s emergency response
4. Locate and Dispatch: Global food procurement
5. The Food Run: Land-based logistics
6. Future Farming: Long-term food aid projects

TO THE MYSTERIOUS WORLD OF THE
DOGON AND THE STARS
HI,
MY TIME TRAVELLING ADVENTURERS !
ARE YOU BRAVE? ARE YOU CURIOUS ?
I JUST KNEW YOU WOULD BE!
COMMANDER TANK HERE !
STEP INTO MY GOLDEN EYE TO THE GALAXIES
TO EXPLORE A MYSTERY STILL UNSOLVED!
Commander Tank, you may ask...
What do these people have to do with the stars?
That's the Mystery....and I like a good mystery....
Don't you?
In order to try and solve this mystery,
we need to warp back in time......
Are you ready? Ok, Let's Go!
The planets move in elliptical orbits around the Sun and there are three
types of heavenly bodies (stars, planets, and satellites).
As you can see, my loyal time travellers, this is a neverending mystery.
The first thing a good dective does is search for clues..
Who are the Dogon? Let's find out!
Mmmmm....let's see...
The Dogon Tribe live in the isolated mountainous region of Bandiagara,
south of the Sahara Desert in Mali, West Africa. They are believed to be
of Egyptian descent, and after living in Libya for a time, they eventually
settled in Mali, bringing with them astronomy legends dating from before
3200 BCE! Well....well.....very interesting, wouldn't you say?
They are illiterate, so the entire knowledge of their own tradition,
culture and art is narrated from one generation to another. Though they
do not possess any modern astronomical equipment, they have an
advanced knowledge of astronomy. There's that word astronomy again!
Who were their teachers? That's
another mystery in our trail of
mysteries!
The Dogon believe Amma is the original creator of all the forces of the
universe and his descendant Lebe is the god of plant rebirth. According
to them, the first Dogon ancestors were called Nommo. They were
created in heaven by their creator, Amma and descended from heaven
to earth in an ark.
The Nommo created the eight lineages of the Dogon. Nommo was a
teacher, learned agriculture, weaving, and created the human descendants.
But wait......the Dogon learned much more from their water gods. They
inspired them to create their ancient religious habits based on the
knowledge of the stars. The Dogon people also say that the star Sirius,
the main star in the Sirius system, has a tiny, dim and heavy star
companion called Sirius B; invisible to the naked eye, it is named after
the Digitaria seed... the tiniest seed known to them. The Dogon's name
for Digitaria is "Po". The most secret traditions of these people all
concern the star (Sirius B). The accuracy of their knowledge is really
astonishing, because this tiny companion was "first discovered" by
scientists in the the 1950s, using the most modern radio telescopes.
Later, it was photographed for the first time in 1970 by an astronomer,
Irving Lindenblad, of the US Naval Observatory in Washington D.C. The
photograph he took of Sirius B was the first one ever taken of this
particular star. How could they have known for hundreds of years so
much about the Sirius star system, and especially about Sirius B?
The Dogon also said that there was a third star in this system, Sirius C,
a red dwarf. In 1995, two French astronomers published the results of
many years of studies of the motions in the Sirius system, and
announced that a third, small star of a type known as a "red dwarf"
seems to exist there ! The mystery continues.......
They also describe the orbit of Digitaria ("Po") as egg-shaped or elliptical...
and having the main star Sirius as "one of the foci of its orbit".
In other words, the orbit of Sirius B around Sirius A is one which obeys
one of Kepler's laws of planetary motion, extended to other orbiting
bodies" Ok...I know, who was Kepler?
Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) was the first to propose that heavenly
bodies do not move in perfect circular paths. Instead the planets in their
motions around the Sun are moving in ellipticallv shaped orbits, or egg
shaped!
The Dogon priests said that they received their
astronomical knowledge from the Nommos,
a species who landed on the Earth thousands of years ago. And the
location of this landing was somewhere to the north-east of the Dogon
country. These Nommos came from the Sirian star system. According
to their legend, a spaceship arrived from the sky and landed with a
great noise and wind, on three legs. After the landing, something with
four legs appeared and dragged the vessel to a hollow, which filled with
water until the vessel floated in it. At the same time a new star was
seen in the sky. Probably a spaceship of visitors? We'll never know for
sure. The Dogon called this spaceship "Pelu Tolo" or "star of the tenth
moon".
So what exactly have the Dogon revealed of the cosmos?
Let's look at the facts........
The Dogon appeared to know that:
Sirius, in the constellation Canis Major, was in fact a binary star.
That Sirius had a companion star that was invisible to the human eye,
and that this star moved in a 50-year elliptical orbit around Sirius, it
was small and incredibly heavy, and it rotated on its axis.
Saturn, known to them as the "star of limiting place", has rings around it
Jupiter, called dana tolo in their language, has four large moons. The
Moons of Jupiter are usually considered invisible to the unaided eye!
That our Moon is dry and barren and the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy
of stars.
The Dogon celebrate the Sirius A and B cycle. Their ceremonies have
been held since the 13th century. One of the most important religious
traditions is a ceremony called the sigui. It is held every 60 years, and
lasts 8 years. It's most strongly associated with Sirius when it appears
between two mountain peaks. Sigui represents the renewal of the
universe and is based on the belief that a long time ago, extraterrestrial
amphibious beings from the Sirius star system visited our planet and the
Dogon.
Sooooo.....Where does that lead us, Time Travellers?
It's possible we don't want to accept that the Dogon's
knowledge originates from the visitors from outer space.
Yet.....I myself am from another galaxy , another world .......

Would you rather accept that there was a highly advanced civilization
somewhere on Earth around 10,000-12,000 BCE? Certainly, this
civilization would have had sophisticated and sensitive equipment for
long-years observations of celestial bodies. But... where are any traces of
such civilization and its achievements? At this time, no trace of any such
advanced civilization has been found on Earth.
Seek and you shall find ...
THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE
Well, I'm off on another adventure!
Where? .....You'll just have to warp in !
This I can tell you...
It's gonna be a whopper of an adventure!

The Dogon also say that Sirius B rotates on its axis... As well as its
movement in space, Digitaria aiso revolves upon itself over a period of one
year and this revolution is honoured during the celebration of their bado
rite. According to the Dogon, the day of bado is when a beam of rays
carrying important signals strikes our planet from Sirius EL. The Dogon
ritual masks are about six hundred years old and are strongly connected
with the Sirius cult.
Woah....There is something mysterious between the Dogon people and the
star system of Sirius. It seems they have a very accurate basic knowledge
of the principles of the orbiting of Sirius B around Sirius A, but where did
this knowledge come from? That's the $64,000 dollar question!
The plot thickens...............
Sooooo......let's see what the Dogon have to
say about where they got their knowledge!
What is the Dogon belief of how they came to be?
